Happy Monday! Here is a dose of vitamin sea to get you through your day! This past weekend I had the pleasure of joining some of my favs aboard SD Expeditions here in San Diego! Thanks to Nick and Mark, I got to check off another shark off my bucket list, the gorgeous Blue Shark! We spent an awesome day on the water, starting with seeing a few whales. Then, with the expert direction of Nick and Mark, we jumped into the bottomless blue. Just 1 or 2 small blues came in at a distance at first, but as our time went on, we were in the water with 3 beautiful blue sharks! By the end of our trip we has 6 sharks in! It was such a thrill to be in the water with such beautiful and powerful animals! If you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing an SD Expeditions trip yet, I highly recommend it!
The blue shark has a long slender body which is specifically designed for its graceful and agile movements in the water. They are extremely fast, powerful swimmers and easily able to pursue their prey for extended distances. They range anywhere from dark to light blue in their coloring, and sometimes have several shades of blue on their bodies to make a gradient of blues. On average, Blue sharks grow to about 12 to 13 feet in length, and aren’t heavy sharks at all, with the maximum weight being about 450 pounds. Blue sharks also will feed on all sorts of different prey. They’re often seen feeling on schools of anchovies, and will also gladly feed on mackerel, seals, turtles, squid, and even birds!
Here are a few photos from our fantastic day out on the water!
