Weekly Dose of Vitamin Sea

March 19, 2018 by underwaterpaparazzi Leave a Comment

March 11-17, 2018

My time last week was spent bouncing between sevengill sharks and tuna crabs. The tuna crabs have made their appearance here in San Diego for yet another year. They are a favorite delicacy of some species of tuna, which is how they got their common name. These pelagic red crabs are a type of squat lobster that are also loved by grey and blue whales, Finding this out has effectively boosted my hopes for seeing a whale while scuba diving. 😀 They do occasionally swarm beaches, wash up and get stranded on shore and become the ultimate buffet for our sea birds. But till that happens, I’ll enjoy the blankets of these little “cartoon ninja crustaceans” that are covering our sea floors right now. I hope you enjoy the photos I took last week!
