You can also find the beautiful Blue Shark in San Diego! However this is a pelagic species and would be pretty rare to see one inshore. Your best bet to catch a glimpse of this gorgeous shark is on a boat. I’ve used SD Expeditions a few times and have been extremely lucky this beauty of a species came in to visit us on both occasions.
The Blue Shark has a sleek, torpedo shaped body specifically made for graceful and agile movements through the water. Their tail moves from side to side making them extremely fast, powerful swimmers and have no problem traveling long distances in search of food. Especially if that food is squid! They range anywhere from a dark to light vibrant blue color, and even sometimes have several shades of blue on their bodies to make an awesome gradient.
On average, Blue sharks grow to about 12 to 13 feet in length, and aren’t heavy sharks at all, with the maximum weight being about 450 pounds. Their slender body makes them easily mistaken for the pups of other shark species. Their lifespan is guessed to be about 20 years
Any shark prints purchased will have a portion of proceeds donated to Afrioceans who focus on education initiatives to help save the ocean and Shark Allies who are dedicated to the protection and conservation of sharks and rays and the ocean realm they live in.
