Non Dive Report 6.7.12 – Cove Cursed

June 7, 2012 by underwaterpaparazzi 1 Comment

La Jolla Cove, California

Woke up at the crack of dawn again to try for a 6AM cove dive. I even dreamed about 7 gill sharks last night, so I thought that was a good sign. We get to the cove and some baby waves were rolling in, no big deal. James, Anna, Andrew and I gear up and head down the stairs. As soon as we get in the water, the sets start rolling in. BIG sets. Really? I mean REALLY?! Viz was shot. Just as we decide to call the dive and swim back in (you know, before the waves get big enough to carry us in and smack us down on the beach), we come across a pair of swimmers, one of which is in distress and panicking about the big waves rolling in at her exit point. James, being the awesome instructor that he is, calms her down, shows her he’s a live flotation device, and brings her in safely. (insert cheers here, YAY). So maybe there was a reason we were out this morning even though we didn’t dive…. At least I saw 7 gill sharks and Giant Black Sea Bass in my dreams last night. Did I mention the viz was incredible? 😀 But in conclusion…. The Cove hates me. That is all. Have a lovely day. 😀

What a story. So glad James was there just at that time to save the woman. I know that Cove can get rough, My daughter Jackie almost drowned there years ago, thank God the lifeguards spotted her and saved her life. Things seem to work out as they should.
