Mobula Ray Night Dive & Glamping
Had a brand new experience to add to this years annual La Paz trip with House of Scuba! While the other nights we were in a hotel for the evening, one night we ventured off to a beach cove on Espiritu Santo Island, for a “glamping” experience. For those of you thinking I can’t spell, glamping is a thing, I promise. It’s basically luxury camping. Located on a beautiful deserted island, we arrived by boat to tall tents you can stand up in already set up for us. They each had two cots with sleeping bags, pillows and…. yes that’s a towel swan on my cot. 😀 There was even a tub of clean water at the door to rid your feet of any sand before going into your tent. An outdoor common area was set up for us to have freshly cooked meals made for us. There were even showers and rustic bathrooms. And the view was incredible!!!
After it got dark, we got geared up for the mobula dive with our crew from Fun Baja. They have special lights they drop down in 20 feet of water and we are instructed to go down in small groups and form a semi circle around the light. The lights bring in the krill food source that the mobula rays love. The rays swoop into the food in packs going after the krill. It was incredible! One of my favorite experiences in La Paz!After we came back in from the dive, I wanted to experiment with some star photography. It was a gorgeous night out and I don’t get to see the stars like this very often…
Also the tequila and beer might have come out after the dives……:D Next up, Day 2, check back! 🙂
