Isla Ballena, Los Islotes, La Tintorera
La Paz. Its that time of year again where I joined House of Scuba on their annual dive trip to La Paz Mexico! Such an incredible dive destination a mere 2 hours away from my home of San Diego. And now with the new CBX crossing, flying out of TJ is a breeze!
The dive company we worked with this time was Fun Baja and we had a fantastic dive crew!
The first dive was at Isla Ballena or Whale Island. Its a novice dive and a great one to test out your buoyancy and get accustomed to 83 degree water… and by “accustomed to” I mean canon balling in a warm bath tub. ๐ It gets its name because the island looks kind of like a whale coming out of of the water… if you squint and pretend. ๐ It has rocky crevices, and caves and swim throughs if you have the experience. You can stay pretty shallow or explore down to deeper depths.
Dive #2 was the famous sea lion colony, Los Islotes. While the clarity was spectacular, the sea lions weren’t as playful this year as they have been in the past. Everyone is allowed an off day I guess. ๐ Still managed to get a few shots in. There is a shallow swim through a natural arc here that I love! If the conditions are right definitely spend some time there! The light, the life, its like a dream! The majority of this dive is less than 30 feet.Dive #3 was La Tintorera. Huge rock formations with possible pelagics swimming through. Its about 70 feet deep and a relaxing dive of winding through the rocks.
Next up, our epic glamping trip and night dive with the mobula rays! Check back! ๐
