It was really hard to decide to shoot wide angle or macro while diving off Vancouver Island in British Columbia. But the dock in front of God’s Pocket Resort was macro heaven!! So many nooks for creatures to hide in! I kept hearing about the decorated warbonnet residents who loved to live in old glass bottles and I was on a mission to find them! After peering into a bunch of bottles I finally found this one! It was a challenge to light and shoot this guy down the neck of a bottle but I was really pleased with how it turned out! This eel like fish comes in a variety of colors and has a moss like decoration on its head. I like to call it a warbonnets fancy hairdo. 🙂
These gorgeous nudibranchs also flourished under our dock! And they were the size of softballs! The white Edged Dirona nudibranch is a pink or white translucent sea slug with out a shell. The cerata are white along the edges and at the tips. While these were about 4-5 inches long, apparently they can grow beyond 7 inches long!
Basket stars are so fascinating! These leggy creatures are filter feeders and its pretty wild to see them uncurl and spread out! They were a beautiful addition to the gorgeous underwater landscape!
Its no secret that I love octopus! And while the Giant Pacific octopus eluded me on this trip, the red octopus were still an awesome find! My buddy came across this one bouncing around on the bottom also under out dock! And even though we have red octopus here in San Diego, they are no where near as big as the Vancouver Island ones!
