La Jolla Cove, California
“OMG… I just saw a SHARK!!!!!!”
“AND IT WAS THIS BIG!!!!!!!”
Just Kidding………
Yet another sharkless 6AM Cove dive…. But that’s ok because this is what I drove up to this morning…
The cove was quiet, calm, and beautiful. Made me totally forget the obscenities I was cursing when my alarm went off at 5:15 AM. And even though my “shark repellent-ness” was in full force, Ryan, Melissa and I had an awesome dive this morning. The shallows were calm and clear, an easy 20-25 ft viz. But once we hit a depth around 35-40 feet deep, it got pretty milky with more like 10 ft of viz. We had an entourage of fish following us around of huge sheepshead (male and female), calico bass, garibaldi, and perch. We had a few bat ray fly by’s, and one that let us come face to face with it in the sand. Also had an encounter with a banded guitar fish. Temps ranged in the upper 50’s low 60’s. When the Cove has light surge and no current and at least 10 ft of viz, I’d say GO DIVE!! 😀
Max Depth: 51 feet
Temp: 58 degrees
Viz – 10-25 feet
Current: none

Bottom Time: 63 min
Eye Candy: bat rays, sheepshead, sheep crab, senorita fish, blacksmith fish, golden gargonians, spiny lobsters, calico bass and the other usual suspects
