Dive #361
Meetup with the San Diego Hammerheads for an evening dive at the Shores! Conditions were calm topside, very easy entry. The viz was not quite the treat as it had been the other day. A little cloudy and murky, but still 15 feet of viz. A bit of current at the bottom which could have played a role in my poor navigation to the wall…. but it started with me following a cute chubby octopus with stubby arms. “Ok lets take a heading of 270 and….OOO AN OCTOPUS!!!” ย (Octopus = “something shiny!!”)
We cruised through the sandy bottom and played for awhile in the crap patch where I happily looked for nudibranchs. Johnny found a decent sized decorator crab that was in total stealth mode. Kevin swam over to check out what we were looking at… and must have thought Johnny & I were totally narc’d at 50 ft because all he saw was kelp grass etc… till it finally moved! ๐
More octopus out, tons of pipe fish, sand bass, and a few nudi’s! They was a little bit of krill out too. Just a little…… ๐
We geeked out over nudibranch and other species ID ย over hot chocolate and cupcakes after we geared down. What in the world did we ever do without smart phones?! ๐ย Great dive with great people to kick off the weekend! Thanks for meeting up Johnny, Kevin, Jovan, William, Jun, Sam, David, & Wei Wei!
PS: I’m still working on my ID skills. Feel free to shoot me a message if something needs correcting! ๐
