Marine Room, La Jolla, California
Night dive Monday night with Jeff at the Marine Room! Topside conditions had small 1-2 ft waves pretty close together. Lowest tide I’ve seen at the Marine Room. Pretty bumpy kick out. The plan was to hit the canyon around 100 ft. We dropped around 22 feet and easily had 15-20 feet of viz. There was a definite current pulling us south and I did not compensate enough for it when I took a heading. Kept swimming, swimming, swimming and never exceeded 35 feet…. Whoops… BUT we did come across sand dollar beds in a huge abundance that I haven’t seen in years. The way the Shores shallows used to be. Pretty cool. We played around there for a bit before I turned us around… partially because I knew we swam pretty far out in my complete failed quest for the canyon and partially because it was 51 degrees…. BURRRRRRRR. The shallows of the marine room was much less desirable. 5-10 feet of viz and a decent surge. Enough of a surge that I had to surface to finish the swim in before I’d be forced to test out the puke n’ purge ability of my regulator. But besides that, it was a lovely night dive. Swell model looks flat the rest of the week so I’ll be looking forward to freezing my patootie off hopefully a few more times. 😀 Get out and dive!
